About The Position

Teaches bright children with learning disabilities by utilizing curriculum material adopted by the school as well as appropriate supplemental and teacher-made materials. Develops appropriate lesson plans that accommodate the range of learning styles and specialized needs of students in the classroom. Creates a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation. Actively participates with colleagues in curriculum development, teaming, and collaboration. Documents progress on academic goals and objectives. The Summer School Teacher is a seasonal position that starts June 15, 2026 - July 24, 2026.

Requirements

A minimum of two years of teaching experience preferred.
Experience with children with diagnosed learning disabilities required.
Assistive technology experience required.
Bachelor's degree required.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Orton Gillingham-based reading instruction preferred but we will provide training in Wilson Language Training at a significantly reduced rate.
Experience coaching or in extracurricular class setting preferred.
Master's degree preferred.
Special Education degree or certification preferred

Responsibilities

Teach children with moderate to severe learning disabilities.
Develop appropriate lesson plans that accommodate the range of learning styles and specialized needs of students in the classroom.
Create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation.
Actively participate with colleagues in curriculum development, teaming, and collaboration.
Document progress on academic goals and objectives.
Perform basic hardware and software troubleshooting and correct problems when possible.
Report hardware and software problems to Director or Principal.
Encourage and support the use of technology as a teaching tool in the classroom.
Develop daily, weekly and unit lesson plans, in accordance with acceptable models of teaching, which take into account school policies, state guidelines, school district curriculum, philosophy, subject matter requirements, student classroom composition, societal need, and available resources.
Plan lessons that accommodate the range of learning styles and specialized needs of students in the classroom.
Plan for individual lessons, considering effective grouping practices and instructional methods and present subject matter to students using a variety of instructional techniques.
Plan and prepare lesson procedures for substitute teachers.
Plan collaboratively with faculty and staff.
Analyze lesson presentation and anticipate when and how learning occurs through reflective practices. Identify curricular skills and concepts when developing and implementing instructional plans.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings, parent conferences, and other meetings.
Administer and interpret appropriate standardized and informal assessment instruments.
Demonstrate a variety of teaching techniques and strategies that address the multiple intelligences and learning styles. Evaluate the success of lessons by determining how and to what extent students transfer their knowledge.
Develop and suggest appropriate instructional modifications for use in general education classes.
Anticipate needs and demonstrate efficiency and organization when transitioning from one activity to another.
Facilitate the development of classroom rules, which establish and maintain a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning and clearly communicate expectations to students and parents.
Maintain regular attendance as documented by the number of days present and attends required meetings.
Exhibit punctuality as observed in arrival and departure times from building and required committee meetings.
