About The Position

As part of the Property Team, the Summer, Property Assistant will assist in the general upkeep of a 420-acre summer camp located in Holmes, NY. Position will start in May as part time (16-20 hours per week), and transition to full time (35-40 hours per week) in late June until summer camp concludes in August. Camp Kaufmann serves as a year-round Girl Scout camp for troops in New York City.

Requirements

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Comfortable operating lawn mowers and basic grounds equipment
Reliable, hardworking, and a team player
Must be at least 17 years of age
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Passion for the outdoors and supporting a youth serving organization
Must be able to commit to up to 40 hours a week with some flexibility during the months of June (toward the end of June), July and August
Reliable, professional, punctual and the ability to follow instructions.
Strong problem-solving skills (ability to diagnose the cause and perform the repair or service)
Calm and quick response during emergency situations
Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse communities
Valid US Driver’s license

Nice To Haves

Previous grounds or maintenance experience is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

Mowing grass and weed trimming throughout camp property
Assisting with building and equipment repair
Collecting and disposing of trash and recycling
General Janitorial duties
Ensuring cleaning supplies are adequately stocked throughout camp
Facility Maintenance (changing light bulbs and water filters, unclogging toilets, stocking bathroom supplies)
Assisting with general grounds upkeep
Removing debris, leaves, and overgrowth as needed
Supporting the Property Manager and Ranger with daily tasks and projects
Reporting any safety hazards or maintenance concerns
Providing excellent customer service to staff, volunteers, and campers
Interpret and support GSUSA and Council policies and standards
Other duties, as assigned
