About The Position

The CPS SOARS! program is a four week summer learning experience for current grade K-4 students with demonstrated academic need. The program operates across three sites. Each site will have one principal, and each classroom will have one teacher, one paraprofessional, and up to 15 students. The CPS SOARS! Principal, under the direction of the Summer Program Lead and the Executive Director of Academics is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and management of the CPS SOARS! program and summer operations at their assigned site. Specific duties include: March–June Attend logistics and collaborative planning meetings; Participate in the recruiting and hiring process for program staff; Support school-based student recruitment efforts; Collaborate with department and program staff to develop program-specific themes that integrate with the district provided ELA curriculum and grade level focus standards for ELA and Math; Create schedules and class rosters for camp sites, include staff lunch and prep time; Manage a program budget for supplies and enrichment activities; and Participate in planning for pre-program professional development for summer teaching staff June–August Oversee and manage daily program operations; Serve as a liaison for families and teachers in the program; Oversee transportation and pick up of students; Coordinate breakfast/lunch/snack program; Coordinate and supervise field trips; Provide teacher support as needed; Maintain communication with the Summer Program Lead; Maintain student attendance data and student pick up logs; Maintain the safety of program participants; Provide substitute coverage when a staff member is absent; Disseminate communications to families regarding program guidelines, policies and expectations; Ensure a smooth transition for students attending DHSP extended day; Coordinate with team members to plan one parent event; and Other related duties assigned by the Summer Program Lead and/or the Executive Director of Academics Program logistics Dates: March 17–June 30, 2024 (program preparation) July 1–3, 2024 (summer set up and professional learning days) July 7–August 1, 2025 (CPS SOARS! program) Time: 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (principal work day, July-August) 8:30 a.m.—4:00 p.m. (student day, July-August) Contract Amount: March–June 2025: $2,500 stipend July–August 2025: $60 per hour ($11,760 not to exceed 196 hours)

Requirements

  • CPS SOARS! principals must have a strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the Cambridge Public Schools.
  • Minimum of five years experience in teacher or leadership roles.
  • Massachusetts DESE licensure in Early Childhood preK-2, Elementary 1-6, and/or Moderate Disabilities preK-8 required.

  • Previous school leadership experience strongly preferred.
