About The Position

The W.R. Crigler Student Success Program supports first-year students in building academic skills, leadership, and a strong sense of community at Ursinus College.   The program begins with a three-week summer experience (July 22nd –August 15), where students take a course and participate in workshops to help with their transition to college.   During the academic year, students attend weekly study halls, monthly seminars, and receive ongoing mentorship from peers and staff.   Crigler aims to help students build confidence, connection, and the tools needed to succeed both academically and socially throughout their college journey.      The Summer Peer Mentor role is an integral part of the Crigler Program summer experience, providing guidance and support to incoming scholars. Peer Mentors serve as knowledgeable guides, thoughtful facilitators, and role models, helping new students navigate both academic and social aspects of college life. Through one-on-one and group meetings, mentors will foster a welcoming and supportive environment, connect scholars to essential resources, and advocate for their success.      Mentors must be available for the entire four-week program beginning with training on Monday, July 22nd, 2026. The Incoming first-year students will arrive on Sunday, July 26th, 2026.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate.
  • Prior participation or experience in mentoring or leadership roles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, staff, and faculty.
  • A positive attitude and enthusiasm for mentoring and student development.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leadership, mentorship, or peer education roles.
  • Familiarity with campus resources and support services.
  • Proven ability to foster an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate challenges effectively.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions, workshops, or activities.
  • Commitment to the full duration of training and the summer program. Compensation will be adjusted if needed to reflect the commitment rendered.
  • Passion for supporting and assisting fellow students.
  • Strong skills in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills written and oral.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor
  • Build relationships and support students academically, socially, and personally
  • Lead discussions on college transition, time management, study strategies, and team building
  • Encourage participation and help foster a strong sense of community
  • Assist with campus tours, workshops, panels, and presentations
  • Encourage use of ISS and other academic support services
  • Guide students in using tutoring, the writing center, and library resources
  • Share personal strategies for academic success and balance
  • Support program staff with events, materials, and scheduling
  • Track attendance and engagement
  • Submit reports and communicate student concerns to staff
  • Attend trainings and meetings; follow all program policies
  • Work independently and collaboratively with fellow mentors
  • Create an inclusive, welcoming environment
  • Support students in navigating social dynamics and conflict
  • Collaborate with Campus Safety for building tours
  • Promote respect, connection, and belonging
