About The Position

The Young Adult Peer Mentor (YAPM) provides peer‑to‑peer, strength‑based support to young adults using lived experience to encourage growth, recovery, and self‑determination.

Requirements

  • Young adult with lived experience of mental health challenges, substance misuse, and/or traumatic life events
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with youth or young adults
  • Ability to provide unconditional, strengths‑based support
  • Flexibility and comfort assisting young adults during stressful or crisis situations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience navigating state systems (DMH, DCF, DDS, DYS)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer/social media skills
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Share lived experience with purpose to inspire hope and motivation
  • Provide peer education, coaching, modeling, guidance, and emotional support
  • Build trusting, healthy relationships with young adults
  • Support young adults in identifying strengths, goals, and personal interests
  • Encourage communication between young adults and family members, natural supports, providers, and systems
  • Listen from a peer perspective without judgment or blame
  • Support young adults experiencing stress or crisis using a trauma‑informed approach
  • Assist young adults in navigating state systems and community resources
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and program activities
  • Support a welcoming, inclusive, and recovery‑oriented YAAC environment
