About The Position

For almost 20 years, Avid4 Adventure has empowered kids to live active outdoor lifestyles through our unique outdoor programming. As a Backpacking Specialist with our Windy Peak Overnight Camp, you will do exactly that by guiding kids on multi-day backpacking adventures. You will spend the majority of your summer leading a group of campers to different campsites each night all while teaching campers teamwork, Leave No Trace principles, and how to unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. Important Details
Work Schedule: Overnight camps are a 24/7 operation. The leadership team will create a schedule that provides you with one evening off/week and segments of other time off throughout the week.
Position Duration: Training takes place in Colorado May 16 - 29; overnight camp programs run from May 31 through August 1.
Compensation: Pay is determined based on position, additional responsibilities, relevant certifications, and staff tenure. Starting hourly are below:
$528/week - PLUS room, board, and meals all Summer long!
Additional bonuses for advanced certifications: $125 - $400 per certification
Select candidates may be eligible to receive a Wilderness First Aid certification as part of their training! Must be 20+, certified to drive a van for us, and work at our Windy Peak Camp Location. Ask our team about your eligibility during your interview!

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of camp
• Driver eligible preferred (20+ years old with valid driver's license)
• Personal and/or professional climbing experience required; will be assessed on the following technical skills: trad climbing, building anchors (both traditional and natural), top rope, a variety of climbing knots, and setting up rappels
• Minimum Basic First Aid & CPR certification by the start of camp
• Wilderness First Aid certification is required to work at Camp Windy Peak
• Windy Peak Climb Specialists must have a personal vehicle to get to and from recreation locations

Nice To Haves

• +1 years of experience working with kids in a professional or volunteer setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Set top ropes and releasable rappels without supervision
• Gear management, inventory, and daily inspection
• May be asked to co-lead other overnight camp programs from time to time (training will be provided!)
• Provide 24-hour support with guidance, supervision, safety and comfort for participants during all activities.
• Organize and participate in camp programming, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals
• Follow and educate campers on safety protocols to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants
• Serve as a role model and guide campers by exhibiting appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities
• Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs
