About The Position

The Mission Team Leader oversees daily team operations, coordinates schedules and logistics, supports instrument management and program delivery, and serves as the main communication link with leadership. The role provides mentorship, facilitates meetings and training, participates in routine Mission Team duties, and travels to corps and camps for instructional and program support. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Music with extensive experience teaching music or creative arts curriculum.
  • Proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument needed.
  • Valid Driver’s license/MVR clearance.
  • A personal knowledge of music or creative arts field, including performance, education, and theory.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Must be a team player, self starter, and follow through with assignments until completion.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • A strong commitment to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and daily oversight to Mission Team members, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, deadlines are met, and work aligns with departmental goals.
  • Model Christ-centered leadership throughout the mission experience. Provide spiritual leadership for the Music Mission Team, ensuring daily devotions, intentional discipleship, and spiritual formation opportunities are integrated into the team’s experience
  • Coordinate team scheduling, task assignments, and workflow, prioritizing responsibilities and ensuring balanced distribution of duties across the Mission Team.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Mission Team members and departmental leadership, communicating expectations, updates, and feedback in a clear and timely manner.
  • Facilitate team meetings, check‑ins, and training sessions to support development, maintain alignment, and enhance team communication and skill-building.
  • Monitor instrument management, and program delivery, providing guidance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring consistency in standards and processes.
  • Oversee mission‑related logistics, including transportation planning, inventory project timelines, camp staffing coordination, and resource deployment for corps support.
  • Mentor and support team members, fostering a positive work environment, encouraging professional growth, and addressing concerns or obstacles as they arise.
  • Assist leadership with reporting, documentation, and evaluation efforts, including summarizing team progress, identifying improvement opportunities, and recommending process enhancements.
  • Mission Team members participate and assist in day-to-day office functions such as staff meetings, instrument inventory, library maintenance, summer Music and Creative Arts Camp & Conservatory preparation, etc.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to curriculum development, social media posting, email communication, photocopying, organizing, moving instruments, equipment, etc.
  • Mission Team members will travel to corps, collect, repair, and inventory all DHQ loaned instruments. We need updating, assessing, and repairing our distributed inventory.
  • Mission Team members will teach and provide program assistance at NCI Creative Arts Camp (dates to be determined) and NCI Music Camp (dates to be determined) and other camps requested.
  • Mission Team members will resource corps by visiting and teaching music and creative arts at various Day Camps as requested. NCI Corps Music Conservatories as scheduled.
  • All other duties as assigned.
