The Summer Meals Program Intern & Coordinator is a seasonal hybrid role that combines hands-on internship learning with operational responsibility as a Summer Meals Coordinator within the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This position is designed to provide meaningful professional development while ensuring the effective delivery of nutritious meals to children through Congregate and Non-Congregate meal sites. As a coordinator, this role supports daily program execution, partner coordination, compliance monitoring, logistics, and staff supervision. As an intern, the role includes structured learning, mentorship, guided projects, and exposure to nonprofit program management, compliance, and community engagement. Intern Learning Experience This role is structured to build foundational knowledge and professional competencies in nonprofit program operations, compliance, and leadership. Participate in bi-weekly mentorship and supervision sessions focused on professional growth and skill development Gain exposure to federal and state program compliance requirements, including SFSP regulations Develop skills in data entry, reporting, and documentation for program tracking Learn cross-functional collaboration through interaction with multiple departments and external partners Engage in community outreach and partner engagement activities Complete guided projects aligned with program operations and performance improvement Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing learning outcomes, contributions, and key takeaways Receive dedicated time for learning and development in addition to daily operational responsibilities Coordinator Responsibilities In parallel with the internship experience, this role carries primary responsibility for coordinating Summer Meals Program operations. Oversee daily operations of all Congregate and Non-Congregate meal sites to ensure efficient and timely meal service Coordinate meal distribution logistics, including delivery routes and collaboration with transportation/logistics teams Maintain accurate records, menus, and documentation required for state and federal reporting compliance Monitor food safety standards and ensure all sites adhere to SFSP regulations and organizational policies Conduct site visits, return monitoring, and ongoing compliance checks to evaluate performance and program integrity Serve as the primary point of contact for Summer Meal Partners, providing guidance, communication, and issue resolution Supervise and support Summer Feeding Associates, offering direction, training, and operational oversight Assist with meal loading, inventory tracking, and daily preparation of materials and supplies Support data collection and reporting in coordination with the Federal Program Coordinator Identify and resolve operational challenges promptly to maintain high-quality service delivery Adapt to evolving program needs to ensure consistent access to nutritious meals for children
