About The Position

The central role of the summer MAC teacher is to plan and develop daily activities, games, crafts and field trips for their classroom. They must provide a safe and fun environment for their classroom. Teachers will collaborate with the site supervisor and Recreation Supervisor Assistant and/or Recreation Supervisor in charge of the summer MAC program and support the program’s daily agenda. They will also supervise and keep the children safe and handle any behaviors that may arise. The summer MAC teacher will need to build relationships with children, parents, staff and school employees.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week for most of the summer
  • Ability to maintain 1st Aid/CPR training course through Mandan Park District
  • Experience working with elementary children
  • Outgoing and fun personality
  • Displays ability to work effectively with other summer MAC employees
  • MAC employees are representing Mandan Park District on and off the job. MAC employees are asked not to wear their staff shirts in any non-tasteful establishments.

Responsibilities

  • Greet parents and children as they arrive and leave.
  • Be readily available to communicate with the parents about daily schedules, behaviors, etc.
  • Develop and implement daily activities, crafts, games, etc.
  • Communicate daily schedules with your teacher aid and any other helpers in your classroom.
  • Must fill out a weekly newsletter and email it to the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Supervisor Asst.
  • Must be hands on and participate with your classroom children throughout the day. This includes outside time, free time, art projects, organized games, gym time and field trips.
  • Must be actively walking around the playground, gym and classroom.
  • Able to handle behavior concerns and make sure to inform the parents, site supervisor and Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Supervisor Asst.
  • Follow and be consistent with discipline procedures
  • Attend to injured/hurt children
  • Able to fill out incident reports. Make sure the site supervisor and Recreation Supervisor is notified right away as the form needs to be turned in within 24 hours.
  • Must be willing to drive a 15-passenger van
  • Must communicate and work well with other summer MAC employees and school district employees
  • Closing-make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked, and lights are off in the building
