About The Position

The Lift Mechanic Apprentice supports the safe and reliable operation of ski lifts by assisting with maintenance and repairs under the guidance of experienced technicians. This hands-on, entry-level role offers practical training in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems while contributing to the smooth, guest-ready performance of lift operations. With safety and service at the forefront, the apprentice helps ensure every lift ride is consistent, dependable, and enjoyable for guests and staff alike. This position reports to the Director of Lift Maintenance.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid, current, unrestricted driver’s license required
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems principles
  • Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
  • Proficient knowledge in fundamentals of ski lift operations and components (bullwheels, sheave trains, haul ropes, grips, etc.)
  • Ability to adhere to workplace safety protocols (OSHA standards, fall protection, lockout/tagout procedures)
  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to frequency lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance

Responsibilities

  • Safely assist with operation of all ski lifts using lift controls
  • Assist in responding to lift malfunctions or breakdowns, helping to troubleshoot issues efficiently to minimize downtime and guest disruption
  • Have knowledge of locations of all ski lifts around the mountain
  • Understand how to run lift on auxiliary or evacuation diesels
  • Perform daily pre-operational inspection of ski lifts
  • Inspect tires and belts on detachable lifts
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of ski lifts
  • Operate on-mountain vehicles, including pick-up trucks, ATVs, snowmobiles, and side-by-side machines (as required)
  • Obtain ASC ATV, Snowmobile certification (as required)
  • Accurately log maintenance tasks, inspection results, and parts used, contributing to consistent record-keeping and operational transparency
  • Perform other duties as assigned
