About The Position

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood Mountain Resort, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California. Homewood Mountain Resort is seeking a Lift Mechanic III to join the Lift Maintenance Department. Job Summary: A Lift Mechanic III is a highly experienced professional capable of performing advanced mechanical, electrical, and rigging tasks across a variety of lift systems. They lead critical operations such as complex repairs, evacuations, and troubleshooting, while ensuring compliance with manufacturer standards and safety protocols. This role requires strong planning, documentation, and technical skills, including proficiency with PLC systems and computer-based maintenance tools.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years of hands-on experience in lift maintenance or related mechanical/electrical field
  • Strong knowledge of lift systems, components, and manufacturer-specific maintenance standards
  • Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer service bulletins and technical documentation
  • Advanced rigging knowledge, including safe handling of bull wheels, gearboxes, and complex lift components
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust rigging methods based on load calculations and site conditions
  • Experience leading lift evacuations and safely managing emergency scenarios
  • Strong understanding of lift safety systems, including APU and “no safeties mode” operations
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems ranging from 480V AC to low-voltage DC
  • Solid understanding of electrical safety practices and risk mitigation procedures
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, plan maintenance work, and estimate labor hours and material needs
  • Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with PLC systems, including basic interfacing and diagnostics
  • Ability to maintain accurate, organized, and detailed maintenance records and reports
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or lead small teams
  • Commitment to safety, reliability, and high-quality workmanship
  • Proficient in safe rigging of towers and line gear, with the ability to adjust methods based on load and conditions
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
  • Professional demeanor with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, communication platforms, and reservation tools.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of a Lift Mechanic (Maintenance Technician) with advanced proficiency
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of manufacturer-specific maintenance requirements and service bulletins across multiple lift systems
  • Accurately identify and prepare all tools required for a wide range of lift maintenance tasks
  • Execute safe and effective rigging for all maintenance scenarios, including bull wheels and gearboxes
  • Adapt rigging techniques based on load variations and unique lifting conditions
  • Lead and command lift evacuations, APU, and “no safeties mode” operations
  • Safely unload passengers in most lift failure and emergency scenarios
  • Establish task priorities, develop parts lists, and estimate total labor hours for maintenance projects
  • Safely handle and work with electrical systems ranging from 480V AC to 1.2V DC
  • Diagnosing and resolving electrical issues with a strong emphasis on safety and risk mitigation
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and well-organized maintenance records and documentation
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and PLC interfacing systems
