About The Position

Law students perform a variety of duties at CLS depending on their experience level and the needs of the particular project or office. Working with a team of dedicated and rotating staff in this fast-paced environment, housing unit attorneys provide advice and brief services to applicants.

Requirements

Strong commitment to legal issues affecting low-income individuals
Strong interest in research, writing and interviewing
Strong commitment to working with vulnerable individuals, including disabled and elderly clients in need of legal assistance.
Candidate should be confident and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

Assist with the investigation of applicant’s legal issues through client interviews, documentary review, research and analysis.
Assist at one or more of the Housing Unit’s three Eviction Clinics.
Additional duties may include drafting of advice letters, pleadings, memoranda and briefs and legal research.
Assistance with any other tasks necessary to carry out effective representation of clients.
