2026 Summer Internship - Jackson, MS
About The Position
The Clarion Ledger, part of the USA TODAY Network, is offering a paid summer journalism internship in Jackson, Mississippi, for a current college student or recent graduate. Candidates should be interested in pursuing a career in reporting. A strong candidate for this 10-week internship should be insatiably curious and want to tell stories on a variety of community topics from city news to business to arts and culture. This intern will be responsible for both breaking news and enterprise and should be interested in telling stories on a variety of platforms, including video, photo and social media. Data and data presentations skills are a plus but not required. Jackson is a state capital with a fascinating history and no shortage of great stories.
Requirements
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a journalism program (junior year or beyond preferred).
- Strong writing, research, and fact-checking skills.
- Familiarity with style.
- Candidates should have understanding of AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance their journalism.
- Critical thinking, adaptability, and attention to detail
- This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
- Availability for some evening and weekend work
Nice To Haves
- Data and data presentations skills are a plus but not required.
Responsibilities
- Conduct information gathering through research and interviews.
- Write news articles, take photographs, create videos.
- Cover breaking news, features, and complete at least one enterprise-level project.
- Craft headlines, social media postings, video content.
- Pitch story ideas and multimedia enhancements.
- Promote your stories on social media.
