About The Position

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Operations Intern to join our team at our Oxford Forge in Oxford, Michigan. This cross-functional internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple critical areas of manufacturing operations: Supply Chain Management (SCM), Manufacturing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Finance. The ideal candidate is a current college student with a strong interest in manufacturing, operations, and industrial processes. You will work directly with department leaders and the Plant Manager on real projects that impact plant performance, efficiency, and cost control. As a Cross-Functional Summer Intern, you will rotate through and support the following departments: Manufacturing & Production Assist with production floor observations, time studies, and process mapping Support lean manufacturing initiatives, 5S audits, and continuous improvement projects Track key performance metrics such as OEE, downtime, scrap rates, and yield Help update standard work instructions and visual management tools Maintenance Support preventive maintenance scheduling and tracking Assist in equipment reliability analysis and downtime root cause investigations Participate in maintenance planning and parts inventory organization Engineering Help with CAD drawing reviews, process improvement layouts, and tooling documentation Support engineering change orders and new product introduction activities Participate in equipment capability studies and process validation Supply Chain Management (SCM) Assist with inventory accuracy audits and cycle counts Support raw material and finished goods tracking Analyze supplier performance data and material flow opportunities Finance Help prepare cost analysis reports and variance tracking Assist with budgeting and forecasting support activities Participate in month-end close support and labor cost reporting Plant Manager Support Prepare data visualizations and PowerPoint presentations for leadership meetings Coordinate cross-departmental projects and follow up on action items Conduct special projects and ad-hoc analysis as assigned

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, charts, formulas) and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and contribute
