About The Position

ASTRO is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Summer Intern to support both the Membership and Community Engagement teams. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience across two interconnected areas: membership data quality and operations, and programs that support students, residents and community engagement initiatives. The intern will contribute directly to improving the accuracy and usefulness of ASTRO’s membership data while also supporting award programs, mentoring initiatives and student-focused activities tied to the Annual Meeting. This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in data analytics, nonprofit operations, public health, communications or health care administration to build practical skills in a mission-driven professional association. Learning Opportunities include: Hands-on experience working with a professional association membership database (AMS), exposure to membership operations, data quality management and reporting in a nonprofit environment, experience supporting award programs, mentoring initiatives and student engagement activities, development of foundational skills in data cleanup, research, reporting and operational coordination, insight into how professional societies support education, career development, volunteer engagement and community-building, and opportunities to collaborate cross‑functionally with communications, public relations, finance and IT teams.

Requirements

  • One to two years of higher education experience

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with databases, AMS/CRM systems or data tools is a a plus
  • Interest in nonprofit organizations, professional associations, or health care-related fields preferred
  • Rising juniors and seniors strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with membership database cleanup by reviewing records for accuracy, consistency and completeness
  • Identify and help resolve duplicate records and outdated or incomplete member information
  • Support data hygiene efforts, including standardizing fields and validating data across systems
  • Conduct basic data analysis to support membership reporting and insights
  • Help prepare summary reports, tables and charts for internal use
  • Assist with documentation of membership processes and data workflows
  • Support general membership operations, including project-based assistance
  • Collaborate with membership staff on special projects related to member engagement, retention or system improvement
  • Coordinate updates to student award recipients’ records in the ASTRO membership database and tracking systems, including verification of past participant information and entry of new award data
  • Update mentor and volunteer databases and web listings for programs requiring volunteer participation, such as the Medical Student Fellowship (MSF) Award
  • Update 2026 award recipient listings on the ASTRO website
  • Coordinate with the Public Relations department to support social media posts highlighting award recipients and program achievements
  • Coordinate Medical Student Fellowship student travel logistics for the 2026 Annual Meeting, including tracking meeting registration status, monitoring abstract acceptances and creating presentation schedules
  • Work with the Director of Community Engagement and Professional Development to create materials and coordinate student and community activities for the 2026 Annual Meeting
  • Conduct research and collect publication information for MSF program participants, including identifying relevant publications, confirming authorship, and documenting findings for program evaluation and reporting
