About The Position

As a System Engineering Summer Intern, you will stand at the crossroads of Android, embedded SW development, and EE HW development. You will leverage your critical thinking and curiosity to solve complex multi-domain problems. You will collaborate with developers, engineers, and project managers to develop new automotive features and support the launch of cutting-edge automotive products.

Requirements

  • Exposure to SW Development (Java, Kotlin, C, or C++). Be able to speak about past projects or learnings.
  • A disposition to learn new skills and an interest in automotive development.
  • An analytical mindset and willingness to do technical work.
  • Good communication skills, be able to speak to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program at an accredited institution having completed your Sophomore year or later, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter before participation in the internship program, and returning to school for at least one semester upon completion of the internship program
  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Be willing to work in an office in Novi, Michigan.
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to provide your own housing and transportation to/from work.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
  • Must provide full work availability from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026 and be able to work 40 hours per week

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automotive development
  • Experience with Android, QNX, or Linux development/operating systems
  • If you have used ADB before, this job might be right for you
  • Experience with CAN, I2C, SPI, and/or UART.
  • Experience developing with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet.
  • Skills with Python or other scripting languages.
  • EE design skills – Read and create EE schematics.
  • EE hands-on skills – soldering, hand tools, debugging

Responsibilities

  • Learn to integrate peripheral devices like displays, cameras, GPS, and more. You’ll learn to develop drivers, manage I2C communication, and troubleshoot hardware interactions.
  • Actively support defect triage. You’ll get hands on in-vehicle, analyze logs, and learn to use the 8D process.
  • Own the development of Android features. You’ll develop apps, enhance frameworks, and expand the capabilities of our intelligent cockpit products.
  • Actively support performance optimizations for our products. You will learn how to use kernel traces, boot charts, startup logs and more to make our products faster and more reliable.
  • Support manufacturing related issues and validation. Learn how products get produced at scale and how to solve the kind of problems that come with a new product launch.
