Hexcel is currently seeking a Summer Engineering Intern (1st Shift) for our Amesbury, MA location. The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to assisting our Quality team with the following activities, as needed:

Requirements

  • Able to maintain situational awareness and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered part drawings including datums and tolerances.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical measurement techniques such as measuring lengths, widths, heights, depths, diameters and radii.
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office tools including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Organized and detail oriented to ensure accuracy and completeness of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with CAD (computer aided design) software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ProE, etc.) considered a “plus”

Responsibilities

  • The setup, configuration, qualification and programming of optical measurement systems such as the OGP SmartScope 1500 system and Keyence IM-8001 camera system.
  • Document / update part specific Quality Plans using the DISCUS software and generate associated ballooned drawings
  • Facilitate the completion of a formal measurement systems analysis (“Gauge R&R”) on designated ARC part numbers establishing baseline precision-to-tolerance ratios
  • Aid in the design, build and qualification of appropriate fixturing to hold the three designated ARC part numbers in appropriate orientations needed to capture required dimensional measurements
  • Establish correlations between the existing metrology methods and the new optical measurement systems for each of the dimensions measured
