Internship Program Overview: Our 2026 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 8, 2026. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer. Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC's many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program. Department Overview: The Strategic Investments Group ("SIG") creates and structures impact investments to drive inclusive economic development by enhancing access to capital, mobilizing private investment and supporting the acceleration of EDC initiatives and strategic projects To realize the vision of equitable, sustainable prosperity, SIG structures and implements impact investments utilizing an array of financing solutions, including tax incentives such as discretionary tax benefits, tax-exempt bond financing and tax credits. SIG is composed of two teams that facilitate the creation of quality jobs across all five boroughs of New York City, the Incentives team and the Funds and Advisory team. The Incentives team manages several tax incentive programs including, but not limited to: New York City Industrial Development Agency (NYCIDA) negotiates discretionary tax incentives on behalf of the City for job-generating commercial, industrial and food retail real estate projects. Build NYC Resource Corporation (Build NYC) is a bond issuing authority for tax-exempt financing for 501(c)(3) organizations and exempt facility projects. NYC Neighborhood Capital Corporation (NYCNCC) secures and deploys New Markets Tax Credits to catalyze projects in underserved areas.

Requirements

  • Preferred field(s) of study: Public Policy & Administration, Politics, Finance, Economics, Urban Planning, Sociology, or related field
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated experience in using database and presentation tools, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
  • Ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work full-time, Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM and complete the entirety of the 10-week program

Responsibilities

  • Develop a working knowledge of tax incentive and tax-exempt bond financing programs that are available through NYCIDA, Build NYC, and NYCNCC, respectively.
  • Support team members in the development of materials that drive decision-making, including summaries, internal presentations, and external communications.
  • Document processes, create guides for recurring tasks, and recommend new data visualizations to highlight portfolio insights.
  • Provide operational support for portfolio monitoring, reporting, and integration between legacy and digital systems.
  • Define and monitor market benchmarks in the NYC landscape that may influence NYCIDA, Build NYC, and NYCNCC and maintain a repository of findings.
  • Identify key performance indicators and other ESG-related metrics to support future reporting and leverage portfolio data.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analyses to extract impact trends and inform future project diligence.
  • Assist in drafting materials that communicate program goals and achievements to strategic external audiences.
  • Research emerging trends and opportunities to further develop and expand SIG's programs.
