About The Position

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties, locations, and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description, and incumbent(s) may be required to perform work-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description. This job description is not a “contract” between the employee and the Authority. The job duties and essential functions may be changed at the discretion of the General Manager. The Summer Intern, Communications will support the communications team with various tasks, including content creation, media relations, internal and external communications, and public relations initiatives. The intern will help ensure that messaging is consistent and supports DC Water’s goals.

Requirements

  • Experience in communications, public relations, or similar disciplines.
  • Must be currently enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Must have at least 30 credit hours complete
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various communication projects.
  • Strong organizational development skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teams.
  • Self-starter attitude and out-of-the-box thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building rapport and networking.
  • Ability to handle demanding tasks and work in various environments.
  • Flexibility to work during evenings or after-hours if needed.
  • Capability to lift materials or equipment when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in media relations, content writing, or communications campaigns.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in content creation, project management, and organizational development.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership abilities.
  • Creative thinking and ability to find new approaches to communication strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with content creation for internal and external communications.
  • Help develop and edit press releases, newsletters, blog posts, and social media content.
  • Support media relations efforts and maintain contact lists.
  • Assist with preparing presentations and communication materials for stakeholders.
  • Help monitor and track communication campaigns and initiatives.
  • Performance of assignments under the direct supervision of a department lead
  • Performance of other work-related duties as needed
