About The Position

This summer internship opportunity is for an undergraduate student majoring in electronics, materials engineering, or physics, with a focus on thin film material deposition and materials characterization. The intern will support scientists at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in the Air Force Research labs. The role involves performing 2D material sample fabrication, including substrate preparation, mechanical exfoliation, and optical contrast characterization, as well as material characterization using techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) for various ferroic 2D materials. AeroVironment (AV) is a premier autonomous systems company in the U.S., delivering breakthrough capabilities across air, land, sea, space, and cyber, including AI-powered drones and loitering munitions. Founded by Dr. Paul MacCready, AV has over 50 years of experience in unmanned systems, aiming to redefine what's possible in defense technology.
