About The Position

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities. The Criminal Justice Unit handles both expense and capital for criminal justice-related agencies in NYC. It includes expense oversight of the District Attorney's Offices, Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, Public Administrators, and the public defenders while capital projects include renovation and construction of all courthouses. The intern could be working on several projects for the unit. The Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice has over $800M in human services contracts and the unit would like to create a dashboard of spending by contract that can be updated regularly. The CJ Unit will also be undertaking a heavier monitoring process of the 18-B/Assigned Counsel Program to monitor state revenue claiming and spending. Projects would overall allow the intern to understand how court and the criminal justice operations operate and what that means for the City budget.

Requirements

  • Excel formulas and strong communication skills
  • A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.
  • Graduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program.
  • Candidates should have strong analytical, quantitative, research and communication skills.
  • Additionally, candidates must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program, graduate students must be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.

Responsibilities
