About The Position

Summer Discovery is a pre-college residential and commuting summer program hosted by the Office of Admissions in collaboration with Summer Discovery. Admissions manages all program academics and our Summer Discovery partners manage all residential programming. Purpose To assist with coordination of academic programming and courses for high school students attending Summer Discovery at UT Austin in June and July, and to serve as supervisor for Academic Assistants assigned to work in the classrooms. Must be available to work on campus from May 15-July 31 with some flexibility to complete tasks remotely when summer programs aren't in session.

  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills with academic professionals, ensuring smooth coordination on campus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, thriving in a collaborative team environment.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and mail merge tools.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating leadership, creative problem-solving, and crisis management.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to handle physical demands, including moving objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate student with administrative experience and can-do attitude.
  • Experience working with high school students in an educational or camp setting.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate students.
  • Driving Required Golf Cart Requirement: Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and ability to complete all UT Austin required trainings and certifications to drive campus vehicles by June 1.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with pre-program tasks to ensure smooth campus arrival for academic and residential staff and program students.
  • Supporting Program Coordinator/Camp Director with academic team, SD staff, and student orientations, leading engaging trainings as needed.
  • Serving as the Admissions team liaison with SD staff, handling academic matters with care and professionalism.
  • Serving as supervisor to Academic Assistants offering in-class support for students and instructors.
  • Collaborating with SD Academic Coordinator to ensure optimal learning experience for students, managing daily course attendance, student absences, and accurate record of course changes and academic issues across various platforms.
  • Supporting academic team and students with daily tech support in the classroom and study hall.
  • Assisting with study hall, tutoring and academic assistance for students.
  • Supporting Program Coordinator/Camp Director in maintaining Youth Protection Program compliance and student safety.
  • Monitoring classes to ensure staff/student ratios as needed.
  • Safely driving golf cart with staff, students and program materials.
  • Other duties as assigned
