The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, opened on October 1, 1940, is known as “America’s First Superhighway”! Our mission is to operate a safe, reliable, customer-valued toll road system that supports national mobility and commerce. The PTC operates a 565-mile system with over 205 million transactions annually. Together, we are building the highway of the future. Pennsylvania residency is required for summer employment. Job Purpose and SummaryThe Summer Communications Intern program involves training and assignments designed to develop proficiency and gain operational knowledge in the Communications & Marketing programs of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). An employee in this position works with higher-level professionals to acquire an understanding of established procedures, practices, and methods. Employees receive instruction through demonstrations and participation in projects, performing increasingly more difficult duties as the familiarization period progresses. Close supervision is provided by a higher-level staff member who will assign projects, give preliminary instructions, and review work.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in the sophomore, junior, or senior year of a post-secondary educational program majoring in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in an on-the-job training program designed to develop practical proficiency in Communications & Marketing related programs.
  • Assists with the research, development, review and/or edit of communications materials.
  • Assists with implementation of communications plans in support of the organization’s overall priorities.
  • Assists with internal and external events including planning, production, pre/post communications, and day-of logistics.
  • Provides day-to-day support to colleagues on departmental projects.
  • Drafts social media posts in line with social marketing strategies.
  • Participates in marketing tasks, campaigns, and programs to promote a positive image and keep the public informed of PTC programs and activities.
  • Assists with production of publications, videos, and the development of web content.
  • Attends trainings, meetings, and other events as required.
  • Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
  • Performs related duties as assigned as per college internship program requirements.
