About The Position

Duke University was created in 1924 through an indenture of trust by James Buchanan Duke. Today, Duke is regarded as one of America’s leading research universities. Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke is positioned in the heart of the Research Triangle, which is ranked annually as one of the best places in the country to work and live. Duke has more than 15,000 students who study and conduct research in its 10 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. With about 40,000 employees, Duke is the third largest private employer in North Carolina, and it now has international programs in more than 150 countries. At Duke, we celebrate creativity, curiosity, and the unique perspectives that each member of our community brings. As the Summer Communications Fellow at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, you’ll play an active role in sharing the museum’s story—highlighting contemporary creativity, global perspectives, and the vibrant intersection of art and campus life. You’ll collaborate with a passionate, interdisciplinary team and contribute your own voice and ideas while engaging with students, artists, scholars, and community members. This fellowship is an opportunity to explore your interests, build your portfolio, and bring art to life for new audiences. The Nasher Museum of Art is a dynamic space where exhibitions, public programs, performances, and hands-on experiences spark conversation and inspire action. In this role, you’ll experiment with storytelling across digital platforms, capture behind-the-scenes moments, and help shape how the museum connects with its audiences—both on campus and beyond. Located on Duke University’s campus in Durham, North Carolina, the Nasher Museum of Art offers a hands-on, creative work environment where bold ideas, collaboration, and community are valued. This fellowship provides meaningful professional experience, training for new skills, and the chance to contribute to a nationally recognized academic museum while building a strong communications portfolio.
