About The Position

The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York (“SNP”) is currently hiring for its Summer College Internship Program for the summer of 2026. SNP is an independent local prosecutor’s office, which is responsible for felony narcotics investigations and prosecutions throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Over the summer, The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, will conduct an eight week internship program that will immerse students in the legal field. The program is anticipated to begin on the first Monday in June 2026. College interns are compensated at ($560 per week), and work full-time, Monday through Friday, from 9:30am – 5:30pm. College Interns are directly supervised by an Assistant District Attorney or the Deputy Director of the Training Unit.

Requirements

  • Current college sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply to the summer internship program.
  • Selected candidates will have to pass a background check prior to the start of the internship.
  • Selected candidates must be available to work the entire length of the program and must immediately inform HR and the Director/Deputy Director of Legal Training of any anticipated conflict.
  • Demonstrated interest in public service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist prosecutors as they prepare for hearings and trials in their criminal cases.
  • Observe SNP’s Alternative to Incarceration program
  • Attend court proceedings and off-site tours related to SNP’s work.
  • Participate in their own specific educational program.
  • Meet regularly with prosecutors in our office and receiving a “crash course” in criminal law.
  • Learn case studies regarding the types of cases this office prosecutes and how they are investigated and prosecuted.
  • Participate in mock trials, grand jury presentments, where you will utilize the skills and information you learned over the summer to examine mock witnesses and present evidence in a narcotics felony case based upon an actual case prosecuted by SNP.
