About The Position

OCTA's Summer College Intern Program is a ten-week paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience. As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking. Under direct supervision, students will perform a variety of professional, entry-level duties to obtain practical experience related to their major field of study and interest, and the sponsoring department's current business operations within OCTA and the Transportation Industry. Employment will be full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, for the duration of the ten-week program. An internship in the Capital Project Delivery department will provide valuable exposure and support to the Capital Project Delivery department in delivering highway infrastructure projects that are in the planning, engineering, or construction phase of project delivery. During the program, the intern will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with department staff and engage in project development team meetings, participate in some field site visits, and participate in other OCTA related events. The pay range is from $19.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. This position will remain open until it is filled.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled full-time in a two or four-year college program at an accredited college or university.
  • Must follow a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Students graduating with their bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2024 or spring of 2025 are eligible.
  • College students enrolled full-time and pursuing a master's degree from an accredited college.
  • Preferably pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for undergraduate students.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Must submit the most recent college transcript.

  • Exhibit effective organizational skills and handle multiple projects under tight deadlines.

  • Learn the methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in Capital Project Delivery.
  • Perform entry-level professional work.
  • Acquire increasingly complex and technical knowledge and skills.
  • Assume progressively responsible duties.
