About The Position

The Camp Programs Assistant – is responsible for assisting the Youth Programs Director in ensuring that the acac summer camp program is executed in a safe, fun, and engaging manner. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

Requirements

  • Able to stand, move, walk, and bend throughout the duration of a shift
  • Able to fully participate in all program activities
  • Able to work in warm and humid outdoor conditions
  • Available to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Working knowledge of state and/or federal childcare standards
  • Ability to pass all background checks as required by state social services standards
  • Must meet the minimum Lead Counselor requirements as outlined in VDOE licensing (Virginia only)
  • Experience in summer camps, daycare, or educational settings preferred
  • Experience leading and supervising teams preferred
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Genuine interest in working with children
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Certification in CPR (all ages) and Pediatric First Aid
  • Completion of H.E.R.O. training prior to the start of the camp program
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Read, sign, and abide by the policies included in the Team Member Handbook.
  • Park in team member-designated areas.
  • Club cleanliness is an all-team responsibility; assist whenever necessary in any area of the club to keep the club neat and clean.
  • Assist with Service Days.
  • Assist with acac programs, special events, or activities outside your department
  • Promptly return messages.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude at all times.
  • Deliver five-star service to members and guests with friendliness, direct eye contact, and a pleasant demeanor at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in summer camps, daycare, or educational settings preferred
  • Experience leading and supervising teams preferred
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers by upholding and managing camp safety policies and procedures for both team members and campers
  • Assist with administrative duties such as team scheduling, Campsite management, communication, enrollment processing, and related tasks
  • Support smooth daily camp operations and promptly bring any camp-related concerns to the attention of the Youth Programs Director
  • Provide hands-on support to the camp team by addressing questions and concerns related to daily operations
  • Serve as a substitute for counselors as needed
  • Maintain a visible and active leadership presence for team members, campers, and their families
  • Be a leadership presence during camp drop-off and pick-up times
  • Serve as a positive, upbeat, and energetic role model for both campers and team members, demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, and a commitment to creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment
  • If applicable, review team and camper files to ensure compliance with VDOE regulations
