About The Position

The Summer Camp Naturalist (Outdoor Experiences Assistant) position will work primarily out of Wildwood Marina at Euclid Beach with occasional days at Garfield Park Center and must be willing to travel between locations. The camp will include serving lunches, kayaking, beach time, and other outdoor activities. Euclid is a vibrant community, and this unique summer camp experience is bringing kids with little to no nature experience into the wonderful world of STEM and the great outdoors! Successful candidates will make core memories with an underserved community on the daily and must be willing to get wet and muddy with the goal of giving camp kids a safe and extraordinary experience.

Requirements

  • Must be at least a high school junior.
  • Must have a strong interest in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural resources, history, or related discipline
  • Must have a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current first aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences in outdoor education or recreation.
  • Basic knowledge of natural and/or cultural history of the region.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Provides outdoor recreation and educational programs that serve to enhance Cleveland Metroparks conservation, education and outdoor recreation mission and to promote environmental education and stewardship.
  • Assists with outdoor recreation and environmental education programs within the park district and at off-site locations.
  • Participates in special events or projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management.
  • Drives Park District vehicles to transport equipment as required.
  • Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program materials.
  • Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  • Performs light maintenance functions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
