About The Position

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Summer Camp Lead Instructor. This temporary position will assist with the implementation of the museum’s summer camps program that features themes around spying and puzzles, STEM and innovation, and history- all within the context of World War II. The Summer Camp Lead Instructor functions as an educator during summer camps with responsibilities including leading planned activities, monitoring the camp daily activities and schedule, and ensuring the safety and success of camp participants. This position will report directly to the Youth and Family Engagement Manager and is responsible for providing feedback and reflecting on daily happenings in camp to ensure a quality camp experience. The ideal candidate has had experience working with children in formal or informal environments. Applicants should have an interest in teaching, history, and science, as well as a curiosity and desire for continuous learning. They should be able to communicate well with children and adults, be solution-oriented, have a positive attitude, accept feedback, and demonstrate initiative.

Requirements

  • Interest in teaching/education and a passion for history and museums.
  • 1-2 years experience working with children of various ages in a camp, daycare, classroom, etc. setting.
  • Ability to present information to large groups of children in a variety of age ranges.
  • Group or classroom management skills.
  • Ability to communicate with children and adults.
  • The Summer Camp Lead Instructor must be available Mondays-Fridays from June 1- June 29, 8am - 4pm on camp days and 9am - 5pm on administrative days as well as for additional events and educational programming.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate hands-on learning experiences aligned with camp themes and age-appropriate learning goals as well as off-site field trips.
  • Prepare for all scheduled activities to ensure smooth facilitation and an engaging, high-quality learning experience for campers.
  • Manage two camp interns by delegating activity preparation and facilitation tasks to ensure camps run efficiently, are well organized, and duties are shared equally.
  • Interact with children of various ages to foster inclusion, engagement, and positive behavior throughout the camp day.
  • Organize camp materials and projects to ensure activities run efficiently and safely.
  • Modify camp activities to meet campers’ diverse learning needs.
  • Ensure safe and respectful movement of campers across the museum and off-site field trips including both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as needed for educational and public programming
