About The Position

Samena Club is looking for an energetic and dedicated counselor to help create unforgettable memories at our Vanapalooza Summer Camp- a camp just for tweens! As a Vanapalooza counselor, you'll transport and accompany campers aged 11-14 as they experience awesome off-site adventures while fostering engagement, maintaining safety, and building lasting friendships. We’re looking for a responsible and outgoing candidate with a clean driving record who loves to be active and work with campers as they practice maturity and independence- all while having a blast! You'll be more than just a counselor – you'll be a mentor, friend, and role model who helps shape positive experiences during a critical and exciting time in our campers’ lives. Our 9-week summer program (mid-June through August) includes activities like: Trips to destinations and experiences all over King County Hiking Barbequing and other beach activities Swimming and water sports Arts & Crafts Group challenges, sports, and games

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Must have a clean driving record (5-years preferred)
  • Must feel comfortable and confident safely driving campers in a 15-passenger van off-site and back again daily
  • Experience working with children in a camp, babysitting or similar setting.
  • Ability to pass a background and driving record check.
  • Positive attitude with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with peers and supervisors, pivoting and solving problems using critical thinking and creativity.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to supervise campers and manage activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to positively relate to and engage with a diverse group of campers.
  • Ability to intentionally and effectively navigate challenging conversations and interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred. (Training is available if not currently certified)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all training sessions and staff meetings, including pre-summer training on 6/13, 6/25, 6/26 (approximately 10am-5pm). Training dates are subject to change. Additional training may be required for those without First Aid/CPR training.
  • Be available for all 9 full weeks (Mon-Fri) during camp season, June 29-September 1, 2026.
  • Be available from 8:45 am – 4:15 pm, Mon-Fri.
  • Supervise and lead a group of 7-24 campers (ages 11-14) along with up to 2 other counselors (one Lead Counselor) on and off-site of our facility using age-appropriate language and practices.
  • Drive campers in a 15-passenger van (practice time and training provided) to and from scheduled daily activities and excursions, ensuring safety and effective time management.
  • Actively participate in and confidently lead weekly activities and excursions according to the weekly theme and schedule (examples: swimming and activities at local beaches, escape room, golfing, etc.)
  • Provide continuous, attentive supervision to ensure campers’ safety and well‑being, while effectively managing behaviors and ensuring a comfortable and appropriate environment for all campers.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with campers, families, and staff.
  • Foster a positive, supportive environment by encouraging camper participation, and guiding campers through conflict resolution and effective problem‑solving as needed.
  • Perform light administrative tasks, such as maintaining attendance records and completing incident reports as necessary.
  • Consistently maintain thorough and clear communication with fellow counselors and Lead Counselor, as well as with Children’s Programs Director.
