About The Position

The Summer Camp Counselor's primary location will be at the Hammond recreation Center , responsible for assisting with organization, planning, leading and teacl1ing of one or more activity classes of the camping program including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips. Position Runs from 04/21/2025 to 04/25/2025

Requirements

• Successful completion of 2 years College , preferably in Recreation, Physical Education , Elementary Education or related discipline desired; High School Graduation and sufficient experience working with youth may be substituted
• Ability to direct and actively participate in activities with 10 to 15 active children between 5-14 years old
• Must be an experience and active swimmer
• Ability to communicate clear and concisely work with campers, staff, parents, and general public .
• Leadership skills to include the ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm to the recreation staff, participants, and parents
• Ability to make mature decisions affecting the safety and well-being of children
• Skilled and active participation in varied sports/recreation activities such as bowling, skating, field games, etc.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with organization, planning , leading and teaching of one or more activity classes of the camping program including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips
• Acting as advisor, counselor, and go to person for the group of participants
• Communicating, enforcing, and adhering to rules and regulations for operation, safety and welfare of participants
• Reporting to supervisor on activities , participants, plans, programs, problems and needs: recommending action, carrying our policies and objectives of programs
• Maintaining appropriate records, inventories, making report
