About The Position

AmeriCorps members play a vital role in addressing community needs by supporting academic achievement, mentoring youth, assisting individuals in need, and preparing for disasters. Y AmeriCorps members will concentrate on fostering academic success and mentoring youth within the Indianapolis communities and YMCA centers. Members will design and implement impactful youth activities and programming. This role supports the development of positive interpersonal skills and character growth in youth through various areas within the YMCA, including Day Camp, Family, Health & Wellness, Aquatics, Sports, and Teen Outreach programs. Available AmeriCorps positions Quarter Time (450 hours): 3 slots available | $8,550 stipend (split into bi-weekly payments, paid over the summer) MT (300 hours): 11 slots available | $5,700 stipend (split into bi-weekly payments, paid over the summer) Members who successfully complete their term of service may earn the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, which can be used to pay education costs at eligible (Title IV) schools or to repay qualified student loans. Education Award: $1,565.08 - $1,956.35 Tentative timeline Onboarding: May 27–30 Service period: June 1–August 31

Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years of age by the start of service and will turn 18 before completion on August 1, 2026.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective strategies for working with children and youth to support their growth and success.
  • Possess experience collaborating effectively with youth, parents, and school personnel.
  • Obtain essential YMCA youth worker certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding participant and program information.
  • Exhibit good administrative skills, including documentation and reporting.
