About The Position

This role is for the Summer Youth Adventure Program at Cameron House, a 150-year-old institution deeply rooted in San Francisco history and faith-based outreach, serving the evolving needs of the San Francisco Chinese community. Cameron House offers year-round programs including a heritage youth school, adult ESL and computer classes, counseling services, domestic violence intervention, and case management. The Summer Youth Adventure Program is an 8-week experience for elementary and middle school students, designed to enrich their lives by advancing academic performance and social-emotional health through facilitated activities, lessons, recreation, and community service. The program aims to immerse youth in hands-on growth opportunities to develop critical thinking, creative problem-solving, effective socialization, and perseverance, while fostering curiosity, healthy relationships, a passion for learning, and a commitment to service. The Summer Adventures Support Staff reports to the Youth Program Assistant or Director of Youth Programs and provides daily program, clerical, and logistical support for the program.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be able to participate in training program (online and in-person)
  • A commitment to community-centered social impact work and engagement
  • Willing and wanting to support the voices, visions and needs of the San Francisco Asian American community
  • Good work ethics: able to be punctual, stay organized, remain reliable and pay attention to work details
  • Possess the skills to build rapport and positive relationships with people from all backgrounds, abilities, cultures, orientations, identities and communities
  • Must be highly flexible, adaptable, communicative and eager to be a team player in completing tasks necessary to help with the effective and efficient running of programs for children and youth
  • Enjoys working with children, helping them learn and develop
  • Possesses a positive and professional attitude, regardless of the task at hand
  • Able to Reason & Think Critically
  • Possesses good decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Undergo a criminal background check and achieve satisfactory clearance from the Department of Justice via Live Scan
  • Undergo a screening for tuberculosis
  • Complete a Sexual Harassment Prevention training

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with youth and/or customer service experience
  • Experience working with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and Zoom
  • Have a valid California Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Help to heat and distribute the daily distribution of lunches for campers
  • Purchase, move, organize, maintain and clean-up all materials, supplies and equipment
  • Ensure best practices and procedures are followed as it relates to caring for spaces, equipment, training, and the supervision of youth
  • Provide a physically, mentally and emotionally safe and secure environment for the youth at all times
  • Support program with student check-in and check-out
  • Develop weekly newsletters to inform parents/guardians of summer updates and announcements
  • Fosters and cultivates a culture informed by Cameron House values: Authenticity, Community, Accountability, Excellence, and Servant Leadership.
  • Works collaboratively with peers and staff; builds relationships through effective and compassionate communication.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
