About The Position

As a Servo Engineering intern, you will be part of the servo-mechanical team responsible for the optimal function of the HDD to meet performance and reliability goals. This role will support other servo and mechanical designers with HDD characterization specific to performance and robustness of the product in customer usage, operating environment, as well as component variations introduced through the manufacturing process when at production volume.

Requirements

  • Current student, pursuing a MS/PHD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering graduating between December 2026 and June 2027
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Interest in HDD, Robotics or Automation.
  • 0-3 years of previous experience with Vibration, Signal Processing and Control Systems.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MATLAB, statistics and handling large data sets.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical skills in the area of study

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for collection and analysis of Track Mis Registration (TMR) data, using results to project performance and reliability of HDD and developing new ways to test, interpret and visualize the data to facilitate design improvement
  • Support the team in characterization of the servo capability and using that data to define tradeoffs with the mechanical, recording system, manufacturing, performance, power, and head-disk interface teams.
  • Analyze servo metrics in Manufacturing process, working with team to identify and resolve yield detractors
  • Provide failure analysis support for integration teams, manufacturing, and reliability testing.
  • Use TMR measurements to provide feedback to mechanical and servo designers, using measured data to identify areas of improvement for tracking control, seek control and external vibration management.
