About The Position

Make a real impact in cancer prevention and community health this summer! The Masonic Cancer Alliance (MCA), the outreach network of The University of Kansas Cancer Center, is seeking paid Summer 2026 Community Health Outreach Interns to support cancer prevention and early detection efforts across Kansas and western Missouri. As a Community Health Outreach Intern, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing health education and cancer prevention resources directly to communities. Deadline to apply is: February 27th. Interviews for those selected will take place online in March 2025. Internship will start mid-May - July. Applicants must complete the entire 8 weeks of the program.

Requirements

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • This internship requires enrollment for a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position.
  • The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
  • Computer skills
  • Reliable transportation is required, as this position involves frequent daily travel across Kansas and western Missouri.

Responsibilities

  • Support Pool Cool and Camp Cool sun-safety education programs at pools and camps across Kansas and western Missouri – travel required.
  • Assist with health fairs and promotional booths.
  • Assist at MCA community events, meetings, and outreach activities.
  • Maintain records and data tracking for summer projects.
  • Refresh and update marketing and educational materials for sun safety programs.
  • Help grow, expand, and plan health education programs.
  • Promote programs through social media and digital outreach.
  • Build community connections with partners and participants.
