About The Position

Responsible for assessing client drug and alcohol use, developing and implementation of a treatment plan. Work as a member of an integrated, multi-disciplinary services team.

Requirements

  • At the time of hire, must possess a California State recognized SUD Certification or Registration.
  • Certification is required within five years of initial registration.
  • BA or BS in related field preferred. May accept equivalent experience in counseling/social services setting.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor.
  • Thorough knowledge of 12-Step Recovery concepts of AA/NA and how to utilize in the treatment program.
  • For a person in recovery, a minimum of 2 years clean and sober is required.
  • Strong group facilitation skills.
  • Understanding issues specific to youth and adults in recovery.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR/Pro/AED, re-certification as necessary.
  • Pass agency paid criminal justice screening including fingerprints.
  • Pass agency paid TB (Tuberculosis) screening.
  • Pass agency paid health screening and/or drug testing, if required.
  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance coverage required.
  • Pass agency paid MVR clearance with no more than 2 points - if you are under the age of 25 our insurance company will not allow any points.
  • Represent the agency in a professional and competent manner.
  • Advocate for the best interests of the agency and clients we serve.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, clients, supervisors and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, ancestry, political affiliation, citizenship, disability, medical conditions, marital status, amnesty and military or veteran status.
  • Will promote and support a culturally and linguistically diverse workforce and be responsive to the population within our service area.
  • Maintain confidentiality and confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or agency regulations.
  • Participate in assigned scheduled agency meetings, in-service trainings, conferences and other trainings as determined by the supervisor.
  • This includes serving as an agency representative at assigned community meetings.
  • Observance of assigned working hours and program appointments by demonstrating promptness and thorough preparation.
  • Performance of assigned duties with a positive attitude and in the spirit of teamwork, collaboration and cooperation.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Perform job duties in a safe manner to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
  • Participates in and/or supports agency fund development activities and events.
  • Preparation of assigned reports, work records, statistical data, job performance evaluations, work plans, etc. in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Complete drug and alcohol histories and initial screening assessments for clients.
  • Interact productively within a multi-disciplinary team and provide case management services.
  • Assist with the development of individual service strategies for clients.
  • Contribute to and coordinate the development and updating of treatment plans
  • Responsible for collecting and completing statistical information, case files, program forms and providing appropriate documentation per program requirement and agency needs.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational groups and individual sessions.
  • Collaborate with probation officers.
  • Provide counseling services to youth in juvenile hall or in the community.
  • Provides individual and group activities to identified participants.
  • Schedules and presents educational workshops independently and/or with co-facilitator.
  • Provide outreach and engagement materials for school site (social media, school functions, etc).
  • Provide Youth Entry, Intervention (family engagement, assessment and treatment planning, case management, and evidence-based counseling).
  • Provide Ongoing Support (peer recovery, youth leadership & strength development, culturally competent approaches, school and educational supports, and community involvement).
  • Develop and maintain close working relationship as a liaison with all assigned agencies and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
