About The Position

To enable each child/student to pursue an education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.

Requirements

  • Substitute must be able to work no less than 1 day a month.
  • Substitute must be able and willing to work at any of the listed schools, Liberty High, Liberty Middle, Alt Education Center, Susie G. Gibson Science & Technology Center, Bedford Elementary, Bedford Primary, Big Island Elementary or Montvale Elementary Schools.
  • Must possess a high school diploma (or GED), an associate degree, or a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum age shall be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity, hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the School Office upon arrival at school to sign-in.
  • Reviews with the substitute plans, attendance forms, and schedules to be followed during the teaching day and will contact the office with questions.
  • Teaches the lessons outlined in the absent teacher’s lesson plan.
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practices dictates.
  • Assumes responsibility for pupil behavior in class during lunch and recess periods, and during fire of other disaster drills.
  • Lists assignments made and evaluates student’s work.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
