About The Position

The Research and Media Literacy Teacher position focuses on developing students' critical thinking, information literacy, digital citizenship, and research skills across all content areas. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate research and media literacy instruction into the curriculum while fostering a culture of inquiry and evidence-based learning.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut Teacher Certification in English, Grades 7-12 (015) OR English, Middle School, Grades 4-8 (215) OR School Library Media Specialist (062)
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in English, Education, Library Science, or related field
  • Prior experience teaching research skills, media literacy, or information literacy at the middle school level
  • Familiarity with AASL Standards, Connecticut Core Standards, and digital citizenship frameworks
  • Knowledge of current educational technology tools and platforms for research and collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver explicit instruction in research methodologies, source evaluation, citation practices, and academic integrity
  • Teach media literacy skills including analysis of digital information, identification of bias, fact-checking, and evaluation of online sources
  • Develop and implement lessons on digital citizenship, internet safety, and ethical use of technology
  • Integrate research and media literacy skills across all subject areas through co-teaching and collaborative planning with content teachers
  • Create engaging, standards-based lessons that are differentiated to meet diverse learner needs
  • Utilize educational technology and digital tools to enhance student learning and engagement
  • Partner with English Language Arts teachers and other content area teachers to support curriculum-embedded research projects
  • Co-plan and co-teach units that integrate research skills and media literacy competencies
  • Collaborate with the Library Media Specialist to support the school's information literacy program
  • Provide professional development and resources to staff on research instruction and media literacy best practices
  • Support students in developing portfolio-worthy research projects and presentations
  • Assess student progress in research and media literacy skills using formative and summative assessments
  • Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students on their research process and final products
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes intellectual risk-taking, critical inquiry, and academic discourse
  • Support students in grades 6-8 as they develop increasingly sophisticated research and analysis skills
