In accordance with the policies of the Board of Education and the scope of practice of the registered nurse as defined by the Nurse Practice Act (COMAR Title 10, Subtitle 27), the substitute nurse is responsible to: assess the health needs of students implement plans for the health and safety of students provide appropriate first aid services provide health maintenance services, in the absence of the school nurse. Essential Job Functions: An individual must possess the ability to perform these essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. The following are typical of the types of duties performed: Assess the health needs of students by reviewing health records, providing screening and consulting with parents and health care providers Carry out appropriate health care plans for students with identified health needs Provide health maintenance services for students Document all services given in accordance to established county procedures and polices Maintains confidentiality in all matters related to students and staff Provides appropriate first aid services and notifies appropriate personnel of student health needs.
