Serving nearly 385,000 visitors each year across a 103,000 sq. ft. central library, two branch libraries, and a bookmobile, the Library plays a vital role in fostering learning, creativity, and meaningful community connection throughout Laramie County. The Substitute Library Assistant provides patron service on an as-needed basis across library branches, working a variable schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and short-notice shifts.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of standard computer software and library systems.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail and good task prioritization.
- Accurate data entry and filing skills.
Nice To Haves
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills.
- Experience working with people from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Cash handling experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide courteous, efficient customer service to patrons at public service desks and by phone.
- Support daily library operations by providing desk coverage, performing opening and closing duties, and assisting colleagues as needed.
- Apply library policies, procedures, and service standards consistently while maintaining patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law.
- Monitor patron behavior and respond appropriately in accordance with the Library Rules.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
