About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Custodial Services or designee, this custodian position will maintain the building to meet safety and health standards as determined by district policy and by state and federal laws.

Requirements

  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
  • Proof of Immunization preferred (if born 1/1/57 or later).
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act.
  • Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of heating, plumbing, and electricity.
  • Knowledge of painting, repair, and maintenance to irrigation system.
  • Must be able to operate tools, power or hand, that are related to performing any of the essential job functions.
  • Must have a basic understanding of general building maintenance.
  • Must be pleasant, cooperative, and able to work with students, teaching staff, co-workers, and the public.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written communication.
  • Working knowledge of district-adopted software, including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Routinely check buildings and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety. Inform supervisor of any deficiencies.
  • Be familiar with all materials and equipment used in preventative maintenance of the building and grounds.
  • Properly clean and maintain all areas of responsibility to the level of sanitation and safety that is determined and governed by supervisor and state and federal laws.
  • Secure all buildings and equipment.
  • Become acquainted with custodial cleaning supplies and their proper usage.
  • Operate and maintain all custodial equipment.
  • Extensively sweep, dust, mop, and vacuum floors.
  • Dust all areas in the building.
  • Wash furniture, walls, windows, garbage cans, woodwork, etc.
  • Clean fixtures including: drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, and urinals.
  • Apply floor sealers and finishes.
  • Sweep sidewalk and blacktop.
  • Shovel snow and chip ice off walks and steps.
  • Perform heavy and extensive carpet cleaning.
  • Safely utilize ladders and multiple lift systems to replace burned out lights in gym area, rooms, hallways, and outside floodlights to access the roof for maintenance as needed.
  • Carry and stack furniture and other heavy objects.
  • Assist in making temporary repairs on broken windows and locks.
  • Empty trash receptacles throughout the building on a daily basis and as needed.
  • If something occurs or is noticed that affects the safety of students, staff, and visitors inform supervisor immediately.
  • Must be able to work various shifts, when required, as a result of extra-curricular activities or emergencies.
  • Must be neat, clean, and dress appropriately.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school district rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Requires the use of multiple communication systems, such as electronic mail and computers.
  • Inspect school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
  • The employee shall maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site(s) and work the regular work hours specified by the contract.
  • Professionally interact with colleagues, members of the public, and students.
  • Comply with all District policies and all applicable laws.
  • Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned or required by the supervisor.
