Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Substation Support Specialist I, II, or Senior located at Lincoln Area Headquarters in Lincoln , Nebraska. Position closes January 19, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. This position will report to the Lincoln Substation Supervisor. Position Summary Substation Support Specialist I Incumbent has primary responsibility over detailed substation processes which require them to create notifications and orders necessary for coordinating work management, financial, or logistical information, and support the needs of the customer (internal and external). The incumbent is responsible for reviewing analytical data for accuracy, which involve NERC sensitive records and confidential personnel information. The incumbent provides resolution to inquiries, requests, and complaints based on knowledge of the organization, systems, work processes, and vendor/contractor interfaces. Substation Support Specialist II Incumbent has primary responsibility over detailed substation processes which require them to create notifications and orders necessary for coordinating work management, financial, or logistical information, and support the needs of the customer (internal and external). The incumbent is responsible for reviewing analytical data for accuracy, which involve NERC sensitive records and confidential personnel information. The incumbent provides resolution to inquiries, requests, and complaints based on knowledge of the organization, systems, work processes, and vendor/contractor interfaces. Acts independently to perform office management functions and resolve any issues within defined area of responsibility. Senior Substation Support Specialist Incumbent has primary responsibility over detailed substation processes which require them to create notifications and orders necessary for coordinating work management, financial, materials, or logistical information, and support the needs of the customer (internal and external). The incumbent is responsible for reviewing analytical data for accuracy, which involve NERC sensitive records and confidential personnel information. The incumbent provides resolution to inquiries, requests, and complaints based on knowledge of the organization, systems, work processes, training coordination, and vendor/contractor interfaces. Acts independently to perform office management functions and resolve any issues within defined area of responsibility. In each geographic location, Substation Support Specialists will provide support for special projects and fill in for and provide training to other Substation Support Specialists, as needed. Education, Training and Experience Substation Support Specialist I Requires an Associate Degree in Business, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (OR) a high school diploma/GED plus three (3) years related experience in an administrative support role in engineering, operations, work control maintenance, technology, finance, supply chain, or related functions at an electric utility. Substation Support Specialist II Must have completed Level I requirements, plus successful completion of the NPPD Substation Specialist Progression Program. Incumbents hired as a Level II will be placed into the Substation Specialist Progression Program immediately, with the option to complete the program at an accelerated rate, with District Substation Manager approval. Senior Substation Support Specialist Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Substation Support Specialist for NPPD, plus completion of Level II requirements, with District Substation Manager approval Bachelor's Degree (preferably in a technical field) and four (4) years of related experience OR an associate degree in a technical discipline plus six (6) years of related experience OR a High School Diploma/GED plus eight (8) years of related experience required. Prior Related Experience: Experience preferred to be in an administrative support role in engineering, operations, work control, maintenance, technology, finance, supply chain, or related functions at an electric utility. Licenses and/or Certifications NERC CIP Medium Certification Due to NERC regulatory requirements regarding medium substations, all Substation personnel must obtain and maintain a satisfactory NERC background check.
