About The Position

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Substation Support Specialist I, II, or Senior located at Lincoln Area Headquarters in Lincoln , Nebraska. Position closes January 19, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. This position will report to the Lincoln Substation Supervisor. Position Summary Substation Support Specialist I Incumbent has primary responsibility over detailed substation processes which require them to create notifications and orders necessary for coordinating work management, financial, or logistical information, and support the needs of the customer (internal and external). The incumbent is responsible for reviewing analytical data for accuracy, which involve NERC sensitive records and confidential personnel information. The incumbent provides resolution to inquiries, requests, and complaints based on knowledge of the organization, systems, work processes, and vendor/contractor interfaces. Substation Support Specialist II Incumbent has primary responsibility over detailed substation processes which require them to create notifications and orders necessary for coordinating work management, financial, or logistical information, and support the needs of the customer (internal and external). Acts independently to perform office management functions and resolve any issues within defined area of responsibility. Senior Substation Support Specialist Incumbent has primary responsibility over detailed substation processes which require them to create notifications and orders necessary for coordinating work management, financial, materials, or logistical information, and support the needs of the customer (internal and external). The incumbent is responsible for reviewing analytical data for accuracy, which involve NERC sensitive records and confidential personnel information. The incumbent provides resolution to inquiries, requests, and complaints based on knowledge of the organization, systems, work processes, training coordination, and vendor/contractor interfaces. Acts independently to perform office management functions and resolve any issues within defined area of responsibility. In each geographic location, Substation Support Specialists will provide support for special projects and fill in for and provide training to other Substation Support Specialists, as needed. Education, Training and Experience Substation Support Specialist I Requires an Associate Degree in Business, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (OR) a high school diploma/GED plus three (3) years related experience in an administrative support role in engineering, operations, work control maintenance, technology, finance, supply chain, or related functions at an electric utility. Substation Support Specialist II Must have completed Level I requirements, plus successful completion of the NPPD Substation Specialist Progression Program. Incumbents hired as a Level II will be placed into the Substation Specialist Progression Program immediately, with the option to complete the program at an accelerated rate, with District Substation Manager approval. Senior Substation Support Specialist Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Substation Support Specialist for NPPD, plus completion of Level II requirements, with District Substation Manager approval Bachelor's Degree (preferably in a technical field) and four (4) years of related experience OR an associate degree in a technical discipline plus six (6) years of related experience OR a High School Diploma/GED plus eight (8) years of related experience required. Prior Related Experience: Experience preferred to be in an administrative support role in engineering, operations, work control, maintenance, technology, finance, supply chain, or related functions at an electric utility. Licenses and/or Certifications NERC CIP Medium Certification Due to NERC regulatory requirements regarding medium substations, all Substation personnel must obtain and maintain a satisfactory NERC background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for the NPPD T&D Operation Groups, Fleet, Engineering, and Asset Health.
  • Point of contact for other NPPD departments and external customers such as: wholesale customers, fleet service providers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Responds to internal and external customer requests using written and oral communications.
  • Incumbent is the local team expert of the SAP system.
  • Provide proficient support, training, and extensive knowledge of NPPD systems, and corporate policies and procedures to ensure the customers and NPPD’s interests are met.
  • This may include, but is not limited to equipment data discrepancies, NERC compliance, work for others (WFO) billing, fleet services, on-call scheduling (SOS), and overall outstanding customer support.
  • Independently organize and maintain the day-to-day functions of the Operations Centers.
  • Obtain and maintain historical knowledge of NPPD T&D Operations Systems to record, identify, and generate necessary documentation for internal and external customer needs.
  • Monitor, review, and document time sensitive information for District and NERC compliance in accordance with established criteria for PSP (Physical Security Perimeter), ESP (electronic security perimeters), surveillance equipment, and regulatory environmental requirements.
  • Prepare/process internal and external billing information.
  • Local point of contact for records retention, environmental records, and audits.
  • Review, identify, plan, maintain, and close-out notifications/orders for various work groups to support work management processes and guidelines, including TECOing of preventative maintenance (PM) orders that are NERC regulated.
  • Process and coordinate confidential records and documents, and review and determine actions and steps to ensure pertinent information is accurately entered.
  • This includes the responsibility for team support but not limited to the timely entry and audit of timesheets, P-Card statement, and FMLA data entry.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and smooth integration of documentation for possible future audits.
  • Produce and review for accuracy various SAP project reports.
  • Reports include but are not limited to project tracking through SAP orders, notifications and networks, PPE material report, PCNF orders, ZPMSTATUS report, CATC time leveling report, TECOing orders, and ensuring data accuracy to include but not limited to: SAP, PaSTA, PI Logger, and environmental reports.
  • Process accounts payable invoices from vendors by verifying the accuracy of material received on purchase orders, ensuring the integrity of financial transactions, and affixing proper accounting.
  • Prepare/process internal and external WFO billing documentation.
  • Incumbent will order T&D (distribution and transmission lines, substations, metering, telecom) materials as necessary at the office location(s) they are responsible, maintain the local storeroom, and support operations as needed.
  • This includes shipping, hauling orders, receiving, and inventory count of all materials in the location’s storeroom.
  • Accounting for and tracking of materials shipping using USP/USPS/FedEx, as necessary.
  • Assist the work management team with the purpose of planning and scheduling work to improve efficiency, lower costs, and support business unit plans which improve system reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain proficiency in all T&D data software to include but not limited to: SAP, SharePoint, forms library, T&D drawings, PaSTA, PI Logger, and others as necessary.
  • Ensure accuracy of documentation for equipment installations, upgrades, and removals.
  • Set up, review for accuracy, and maintain critical documents regarding Substation Inspection Reports/NERC compliance documentation, and environmental records for records retention and auditing purposes.
  • Accountable for other duties as assigned.
