About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Financial Specialist I or II will be part of the administration team within the Department of Oncology/McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research. The role will provide high customer service to faculty, staff, and students on a variety of departmental financial transactions. This position will review and submit requests with funding allocation, purchasing, accounts payable, and travel related items, maintain financial reports and records, and support the administrative team. This position is full or part-time, 60%-100% This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Financial Specialist I, Financial Specialist II. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Candidates who demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities will be given first consideration: Ability to work independently on resolving matters timely, effectively communicate and develop positive working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • At least one year experience in Accounting, Finance, or other related business area
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 particularly in Outlook, Word, and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in data retrieval and generating reports
  • Experience in process improvement
  • Experience working in Workday or similar ERP systems on accounting, cost allocation, and payment processes
  • Administrative experience/knowledge of the biological sciences field

Responsibilities

  • Audits or processes transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • Audits or reconciles original purchase documents with payments
  • Serve as a back up to other Administrative Office personnel as needed
  • Drafts basic communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • Answers general fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • Audits, monitors, organizes, and updates fiscal records, reports, and affiliated materials
