OUC - The Reliable One, is presently seeking a Substation Electrician II to join the Transmission, Substation, System Protection division. Job Purpose: This is a substation electrician position in a craft ladder as the next job level from the Electrician III. Assist Substation Maintenance Electricians in the maintenance of all substation equipment. Work under the direction of an Electrician I on a multi-person crew maintaining substation equipment or other assigned duties as necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in substation construction, maintenance, and testing or two (2) years as an OUC Substation Electrician III and 6 months as OUC Apprentice Substation Electrician
- Must possess a current and valid Florida Driver’s License
- Class A CDL (required)
- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) clearance, or ability to acquire within six (6) months of hire
- For demonstration of experience as an OUC Substation Electrician III: Completion of OUC Substation Electrician III sign-off book; and Maintenance of all safety certifications acquired at the OUC Substation Electrician III level; and Completion of required OUC Substation Electrician III level training or equivalent skills, training, or certifications (required).
- Working knowledge of, but not limited to, the following:
- Advanced understanding of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical maintenance methods within a substation
- AC & DC electrical principles
- Mechanical skills as related to electrical equipment
- Maintenance testing methods for substation equipment
- Equipment to include trucks (e.g. Tractor trailers, tankers, bucket truck, F550 Crew, Line truck, Cranes), electric testing equipment, substation equipment
- Familiarity with the following:
- Schematics, manufacturer prints, and wiring drawings
- Oil processing unit
- Software and technologies to include Cascade, battery testing software, Doble testing software (preferred)
- Knowledge of mathematics to include graphic arithmetic, principles of mechanical concepts, reading comprehension (CAST Test competencies)
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Abilities to include:
- Performing all aspects of substation electrician work without physical limitations
- Comprehend instruction manuals and participate in electrical training
- Analyze complex problems and discover the core of the problem
- Demonstrating how to succeed and setting an example for others (mentoring/coaching)
- Building relationships with co-workers and customers
- Taking direction and demonstrating an eagerness to learn
- Able to retain information
- Wear and use various safety equipment (breathing apparatus, etc.)

Responsibilities
- Work with crews maintaining & testing all substation equipment under leadership of Electrician I or Lead Electrician.
- Assist crew in performing (HV) & Low Voltage (LV) switching activities under supervision of Electrician I or Lead Electrician.
- Review job assignments and safety procedures each morning with Electrician I or Lead Electrician.
- Assist in preparing vehicle for next assignment with tools and equipment for their crew, being personally responsible for assigned equipment.
- Help ensure all job-related equipment needs, crew needs, etc. are met (i.e. tools available, trucks are stocked, parts available, etc.).
- Assist with training and requirements for Electrician IIIs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
