This role is for a Substation Craftsperson, specifically an Electrical/Mechanical Fitter, within the North Kent team. The position requires individuals living within 45 minutes of North Fleet Substation (DA11 8HX) and involves travel as far as Sitting Bourne to cover the assigned patch. It offers an opportunity to develop engineering skills across a variety of work in a unique environment within the electricity transmission industry. National Grid Electrical/Mechanical Fitters are responsible for maintaining a wide range of works on Substation plant and equipment, which is predominantly outdoors and sometimes at height on a mobile platform. The role involves joining an established team to strip down and rebuild high voltage equipment, replacing worn/aged components, and maintaining complex HV circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers, and cable systems. It also includes ancillary equipment such as DC battery systems, air compressors, and generators. The work encompasses installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation and repair, and routine condition monitoring. The company provides industry-leading training at its facilities in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, and other local substation sites, including a training program to fill skills gaps, which may require occasional stays away from home with generous mobility and overnight allowances.
