About The Position

The Substance Use Treatment Specialist shall follow the Norfolk Sheriff’s Department chain of command policy and work under the direct supervision of the Director of Programs & Education in the provision of treatment services within the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Professional Licensure required: Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor II (DPH)

Nice To Haves

  • Substance abuse and CBT treatment experience preferred
  • Work experience in a correctional or related environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Shall provide evidence-based substance use disorder treatment services to offenders within the Norfolk County Sheriffs Office, including assessment, substance use counseling, and cognitive behavioral interventions.
  • Shall be knowledgeable of and utilize NCSO approved assessment instruments, treatment curricula, and program materials.
  • Shall work with the Director of Education and Programs on the administration and coordination of Treatment Programs, including required reporting, documentation, and program compliance.
  • Shall introduce offenders to the principles, tools, and expectations for a substance-free lifestyle and successful community reintegration.
  • Shall maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic treatment environment consistent with correctional standards.
  • Shall conduct individual and group counseling sessions addressing substance use disorder, criminogenic thinking, and cognitive behavioral treatment goals.
  • Shall recommend and incorporate films, books, and appropriate reading materials relevant to program curriculum and treatment objectives.
  • Shall be responsible for gathering, maintaining, and compiling required administrative, clinical, and statistical records and documentation.
  • Shall collaborate and communicate with internal departments, treatment staff, and external vendors regarding substance use disorder services within the Norfolk County Sheriff's Office.
  • Shall comply with and adhere to ACA, NCCHC and DOC standards, Norfolk County Sheriff's Office policies, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Shall assist in the care, custody, and supervision of offenders in accordance with established training, safety protocols, and institutional procedures.
  • Shall assist with special projects and program initiatives as assigned.
