About The Position

This position will serve the South-Central Region but will have responsibilities and assignments across the East District. The Substance Abuse Program Coordinator (SAPC) supports the Substance Abuse Counselor Clinical (SACC) in planning, administering, and coordinating ACDP East Recovery Road services across assigned facilities. This role ensures offenders receive consistent recovery support throughout incarceration and are prepared for transition to community-based services.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years’ experience working in a criminal justice environment within a correctional facility, jail-based substance abuse treatment program, or a community based substance treatment program that serves offenders adjudicated through the criminal justice system after credentialing has been obtained.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), or as a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist – Associate (LCAS-A), or in an equivalent credential from a governing authority recognized by the NC Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board to practice under the provisions of the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Act.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the theories or practices of chemical dependency counseling.
  • Experience in the assessment, treatment and/or referral of substance abusing offenders or of client involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of an electronic system of treatment records and of a spreadsheet application.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Recovery Road services with SACC and facility counselors, ensuring continuity of treatment and recovery support for offenders.
  • Provide screenings, brief interventions, referrals, and ongoing recovery-focused education, including relapse management and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) information.
  • Assist offenders with aftercare planning, including home plans, linkage to community treatment programs, vocational resources, and other supportive services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in OPUS and HERO electronic health record systems across multiple facility locations.
  • Support coordination of Recovery Road staff, including task assignments, scheduling needs, and providing program coverage across facilities as required.
