About The Position

Trendsetter Engineering designs, builds, maintains, and operates Multiplexed Electro -Hydraulic (MUX) Controls Systems for use on a variety of Trendsetter equipment, including intervention systems. With minimal supervision, the individual would build, install, and test controls systems for subsea equipment in compliance with design and operating procedures and customer requirements. Working from written and verbal instructions, this individual performs complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assembly operations. These tasks require the use of electrical tools, mechanical hand tools, power tools and measuring devices along with review and adherence to Trendsetter job requirements and procedures.

Requirements

  • Periodic offshore deployment is required to global destinations.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a controls technician or an electronics technician.
  • Provide daily teaching and mentoring of other subsea controls technicians.
  • Must possess an highly advanced knowledge and application of hand tools.
  • Must be highly advanced in the application of AC and DC electrical circuits and electrical theory.
  • Have a highly advanced understanding of electrical risks and ESD awareness.
  • Must be certified or have previously completed IPC J -STD -001 (soldering) and IPC/WHMA -A -620 (wiring harnesses).
  • Must possess a highly advanced knowledge of communication protocols (RS232, RS485, MODBUS, TCP/IP, CANbus) and 4 -20mA devices and digital transducers.
  • Must possess a highly advanced knowledge of EFLs and subsea wet mate/dry mate connectors.
  • Must be highly advanced in operating hydraulic assemblies, HPUs, pressure testing and knowledge of fittings and controls fluid cleanliness.
  • Must be able to monitor controls fluid cleanliness with an APC or microscope.
  • Must possess a highly advanced level of computer literacy.
  • Highly advanced in reading and understanding one -line diagrams, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic schematics and piping / instrumentation diagrams.
  • Understanding of API 17F and API 17G
  • Understanding of NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, NFPA 110 and NFPA 111
  • Possess or obtain a valid US passport is required.
  • The ability to obtain travel visas to global destinations is required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently completes the build, Installation and testing of subsea controls and equipment per specified procedures and quality requirements.
  • Verifies and installs the correct software and firmware installations, configuration of software for deployment or specific project applications.
  • Perform and lead the mobilization and de -mobilization process for the controls systems.
  • Work independently and with engineers to design and build custom hydraulic and electrical setups for testing.
  • Independently operates both TEI or customer equipment as required.
  • Independently perform FAT’s (Factory Acceptance Tests), EFAT’s (Extended Factory Acceptance Tests), and SIT’s (System Integration Tests) as required.
  • Exhibits highly advanced critical thinking skills in troubleshooting / diagnosing problems found with testing controls equipment.
  • Operates and troubleshoots the controls HMI independently.
  • Independently conduct testing on modems, digital and analog controls boards.
  • Preparation of layout for assembly operations
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Promote safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
  • Undergo and maintain all training requirements.
  • Operation of Trendsetter Engineering or customer equipment if necessary.
  • Perform light shop fabrication work.
  • Evaluate and interpret data during and after service activity.
  • Promote teamwork and take an active part in meeting customers' service requirements.
  • Make general equipment repair decisions as needed for TEI controls equipment.
  • Travel to and perform service activities for onshore/offshore electrical work.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Can interact with 3rd party inspectors and customers relating to their products.
  • Advanced knowledge of all hand/power tools used in TEI controls facility.
  • Advanced knowledge of structural bolted connections.
  • Advanced knowledge of reading DWG’s and schematics.
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems, and testing equipment up to 20,000 PSI.
  • Ability to operate all TEI equipment, man lift, air compressor, generator, small and large forklift.
  • Ability to operate overhead crane and/or jib crane properly.
  • Ability to use professionalism when working with other departments or customers.
  • Advanced understanding of company HSE policies and procedures training.
  • Share knowledge & best practice across the company.
  • Ability to mentor other technicians during assembly/testing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to self -start planning and execution of work.
  • Ability to exhibit/adapt to changing situations with positive attitude, integrity, patience.
  • Ability to lead safety program for designated work areas.
  • Ability to generate reports for shop management and accurately adhere to schedule.
  • Ability to coach, direct, and keep technicians working safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced troubleshooting of equipment and direct techs on repair.
  • All other duties as assigned.
