About The Position

Under the supervision of the administrator(s) for International Programs and Global Engagement (IPGE), the Study Abroad Advisor supports the administration of Sacramento State's bilateral international exchange programs, CSU International Programs, and short-term faculty-led study abroad offerings. The advisor provides support across the full student advising cycle, from inquiry and application through program participation and re-entry. Responsibilities include advising, marketing and outreach, program coordination, and compliance with campus and CSU policies. The advisor interacts with students, faculty, university offices, and external international partners to deliver effective study abroad services and help students achieve academic and personal growth through international education experiences

Requirements

  • Experience advising or providing student-facing services in higher education.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and international educational systems and curriculum, admissions policies, and academic programs.
  • Knowledge of best practices in study abroad (e.g. recruitment, program development, insurance, safety and emergency protocols).
  • Strong intercultural communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to conduct group presentations and support recruitment events.
  • Ability to analyze, assess and evaluate a wide variety of situations, including those of a sensitive nature.
  • Ability to articulate courses and translate units and grading systems between educational systems.
  • Ability to make website updates.
  • Ability to meet the requirements per government regulations for Designated School Official (DSO) and alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), e.g. possession of U.S. citizenship or U.S. legal permanent resident status.
  • Familiarity with FERPA and handling of confidential student records.
  • Proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office applications) as well as the ability to utilize student information systems, databases and other appropriate software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Terra Dotta).
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience studying, living, or working abroad.
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages.
  • Experience with CSU International Programs or related global mobility platforms.
  • Master’s degree in International Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience working with a student information system and other industry-specific platforms.
  • Experience Advising Study Abroad students.
  • Experience as a Gilman, Freeman-Asia, Marshall, Boren or
  • Experience in program development including the development of processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of third-party study abroad programs.
