Student Worker - Undergraduate Consultant, University Writing & Speaking Center
About The Position
The University of Nevada, Reno is hiring Writing and Speaking Undergraduate Consultants. University Writing & Speaking consultants work with individual students and small groups on writing and presentation related projects. Consultants collaboratively facilitate writing, reading, and presentation focused sessions, provide feedback for essays reports, research papers and proposals, speeches/presentations, and help first-year through graduate level students develop writing, reading, and presenting strategies as well as develop their confidence as communicators.
Requirements
- Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
- Candidate must have successfully completed ENG102 (or equivalent) and at least one (1) Core Humanities course (or transfer equivalents) with a B or better
- Candidates must have a minimum 2.5+ GPA
- Candidates must possess strong writing, reading, and speaking skills within their discipline
- Candidates should have effective interpersonal communication skills and basic computer familiarity
- Candidates must possess the ability to work with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Candidates must bring a growth mindset to their work
Nice To Haves
- Candidates pursuing degrees in Engineering, Biology, Business, Economics, Anthropology, Geology, Community Health Sciences, and Nursing are encouraged to apply
- Candidates with completion of ENG408B or previous experience in an academic support center or other tutoring experience are preferred
- Candidates with a GPA of 3.0+ are preferred
Responsibilities
- Facilitate online and in-person consultations in a timely manner and follow UWSC protocols
- Complete several online training modules
- Attend regularly scheduled Friday afternoon workshops throughout the semester and complete training prior to each semester start
- Consultants will be expected to complete all workshops each semester
